Fans snub 2face and his show

It was a very surprised 2Face Idibia who walked into the Sentila events centre in Lekki, Lagos for his tribute show tagged Touch of genius; expecting to meet a hall filled with cheering, hooting and screaming fans, it was the opposite. The hall was half empty and the disappointed organisers quickly heaped the blame on the champions league final which was taking place that same day. It had been a question of choice; to be at the show organised in honour of the almighty 2Face or to succumb tothe power of football; the latter had won with fans snubbing theevent to be with their game ball. 2Face had appeared undisturbed; taking it literally in his stride as he had nodded, smiled and waved to the scanty guests. But his silence may have carried a thousand words as the show organisers showed signs of anxiety and worry. Inn defense of the situation, Mrs Ebere Agnes Chukwu CEO and owner of the Sentila events centre one of the major partners and organisers of the show said: “We’d deliberated and debated on this Champions league final a couple of times but then, we had been so sure that nothing could stop his unwavering fans from coming out and enjoying this night with him, not even thismatch” Eventually, they had been wrong. Nonetheless the night went on as planned with several artistes coming on stage to perform different hit tracks recorded by 2Face. The high point of the event had been when 2Face himself mounted the stage and blew everyone away. 2Face hit track African Queen was amongst the first videos played on MTV Base Africa before he eventually won the Best African Act in the MTV Europe awards in 2005. He was recently nominated at the Bet awards for the Best International Act alongside Angelique Kidjo and Dbanj.
